VOLUNTEER FAQ’S

How do I become a volunteer member of VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads?
Becoming a volunteer member is easy. Select the "Volunteers" link on the left navigation menu and register by creating a login account. Your profile, which will be kept private and secure, will give you access to our volunteer project calendar and training calendar.

How much volunteer time do I have to commit each month?
It's up to you. Our goal is to make volunteering easy for everyone to fit into their busy schedules, so we offer projects with varying commitment levels. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like based on your time and interest.

After I have become a member, how do I sign up for a volunteer project?
Click on the "Volunteer Projects" link on the left navigation menu section of our website to find projects that interest you. Sign up for a project on-line. You will receive an e-mail with directions and any other instructions. Then go out to the project and have a great time while helping to meet an important community need.

How old do I have to be?
Volunteers under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This requirement helps us ensure the safety of our volunteers and respects the policies of our nonprofit partners.

Can I volunteer with my kids?
Absolutely! Each month, we have many "Family Friendly" projects in which kids and teens can volunteer with their parents or guardians (check each project description for age requirements).   Family volunteering is a great opportunity to spend time together and also make a difference.   Parents or guardians may register on-line and bring younger volunteers with them the day of the project.

Is the website the only way I can sign up for a project?
You can always contact our office to sign up as well.  You can call us at  (757) 624-2400 or e-mail
info@volunteerhr.org.

I work with a youth group.  How can we participate in a volunteer project?
Because of the size and age restrictions, the monthly calendar projects are not suitable for youth groups.  However, VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads offers many opportunities for youth volunteer involvement, including our Seasons of Service Days.  For more information, call us at (757) 624-2400 or e-mail info@volunteerhr.org

What if I don't find what I'm looking for on your calendar of Monthly Volunteer Project opportunities?
There are many ongoing volunteer needs in our community.  Check the referral section of our project calendar for leads or click on the Volunteer Connection for more information.
